Pagano just ended his first season as the head of the Ravens' defense and coached the unit to great heights in the 2011 season. Baltimore finished the regular season with the NFL's third-ranked defense both in terms of points and yards allowed.
The Colts have been linked to six other coaching candidates. Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reported Sunday that the Colts had interviewed New Orleans Saintsoffensive line coach Aaron Kromer. League sources also recently said the Colts held a lengthy interview with Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and planned to meet with former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress.
Former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel also has been linked to the job opening, in addition to Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. and Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
Colts owner Jim Irsay announced last weekend on Twitter that the decision on Jim Caldwell's replacement should be made by late this week.
